 Job Title:                     Director of Operations

Reports To:                 General Manager/AGM

Supervises:                  Operations Department including Operations Manager, Operations Supervisors, Building Engineers, IT/AV Manager, Facility Operators, Housekeeping and Set Up Crews

SUMMARY:                

Utilizing initiative and independent judgment, the Director of Operations works closely with the General Manager/AGM in planning, budgeting, directing and managing operations of the facilities.  In addition, the Director of Operations manages, supervises and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the facilities, including engineering, maintenance, technology support systems, set-up/changeovers, custodial/housekeeping and grounds keeping. Provides overall administrative planning, direction, and policies to operating managers and supervisors, assuring the highest quality service program.  The Director of Operations directs an effective and cost-efficient department by controlling the Operations Department operating budgets and provides highly responsible staff assistance to the General Manager/AGM.

  QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College or Technical Degree required
  • Bachelor’s Degree or better from an accredited college or university in related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in a sports facility, arena, performing arts facility or other multi-purpose public assembly facility
  • Demonstrated knowledge of facility operations, physical plant management, budget preparation and personnel management
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to function in fast-paced, constantly changing, high pressure environment
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a 5th Class Refrigeration Certificate or a Refrigeration Operator Certificate
  • Familiarity with WorkSafe Saskatchewan, Technical Safety Authority Saskatchewan and CSA standards and regulations as it relates to the facilities
  • Knowledge of principles of supervision and training
  • Knowledge of fire and public safety regulations
  • Familiarity with terminology used in entertainment and convention settings

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide overall leadership to the Operations Department
  • Oversees daily operation and maintenance of Mosaic Place, Moose Jaw Curling Center and all associated facilities and amenities. Including, but not limited to HVAC, sound, lighting, ice making, fire protection, life safety, workplace safety, communications, scoreboard, etc…
  • Oversees the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and priorities of assigned departments, programs, and functions
  • Assist in establishing and monitoring work performance and safety standards
  • Administers and negotiates contracts with outside vendors including pest control, janitorial supply, waste management, snow removal etc.
  • Select, train, motivate and evaluate operations department personnel; provide or coordinate staff training and safety programs; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures
  • Plan, direct, coordinate, and review the work plan for Operation Department personnel; assign work activities, projects, and programs; monitor workflow; inspect work product of subordinates to ensure accuracy and timeliness of completion; meet with staff to review and evaluate work products, methods, and procedures and to identify and resolve challenges
  • Manage the facility’s use of the Micromain program ensuring staff is in compliance with departmental standards and completing reporting requirements.
  • Development and administer the Operations Department Budget; forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve all facility related expenditures; make recommendations for, and implement approved budget adjustments as necessary
  • Develop and maintain a 10-year Capital Budget for purchases related to facility structure and equipment
  • Manage and maintain the building equipment reserve
  • Conduct industry related studies and recommend modifications to departmental service delivery methods and operational policies and procedures as appropriate
  • Responsible for Health and Safety compliance in all facilities
  • Maintain cost records of work performed and prepare cost estimates as requested; prepare invoices for services rendered that are to be used in event settlement
  • Develop and maintain accountings for labor and materials by event and cost category
  • Ultimately responsible for installation and maintenance of ice surfaces
  • Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with relevant federal, provincial, and local regulations
  • Direct regular departmental meetings to identify and resolve challenges and discuss ongoing projects
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities
  • Work under high pressure in meeting urgent deadlines
  • Analyze challenges, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of organizational objectives
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, and facility users
  • Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, extended (long) workdays and extended numbers of days

Spectra Venue Management is the operator of Mosaic Place (www.mosaicplace.ca)  and we require an energetic, highly motivated and detailed orientated, customer-focused team player to become the Box Office Supervisor. This position is full time, hourly position, and a comprehensive benefit plan.

The Box Office Supervisor will plan, organize, and coordinate the box office efforts for multiple public assembly facilities including but not limited to: Mosaic Place, Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, Great Western Lounge.   You will provide leadership to the box office tam and will plan, direct, and evaluate box office personnel.   You will build all events in the ticketing system, including seating manifests, price tables, holds/kills, discounts, pre-sales and set up various ticket promotions as required for Mosaic Place events, the WHL Warriors and the AAA Warriors.

As part of a team of professionals, you will consistently deliver exceptional customer service to all clients while processing their transactions in an efficient, accurate and friendly manner.  You will ensure compliance and adherence to box office, financial policies and procedures and take a leadership role in the department and the venue.  Your experience working with computers, supervising people, having strong organizational and multi-tasking skills will ensure your success.  The ability to work evenings and weekends for events is essential.  You demonstrate a high energy approach and excel in a fast-paced work environment and can adapt quickly to change.  You have a thirst for learning and a passion to deliver an exceptional customer service experience.  Your experience working with social media and direct email programs to raise awareness and promote events is preferred.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years of experience in a customer service-related position as well as demonstrated leadership skills and have knowledge and experience with using a ticketing system such as Paciolan (www.paciolan.com).
