DOWNTOWN FACILITY AND SOCCER/FIELD-HOUSE FACILITY (DFFH)

Position Title:   General Manager

Reports To:     DFFH Board of Directors

Location:         Moose Jaw, SK

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The General Manager for the Downtown Facility and Soccer/Field-House Facility is responsible for overall management, promotion, and operation of the facility, including purchasing, policy formulation, booking, marketing, finance, food and beverage, box office, advertising, security, production, maintenance, and related operations and capital upgrades and improvements.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

The General Manager is accountable to the DFFH Board of Directors for the following responsibilities:

 

Planning

  1. Develop a strategic plan with business goals and objectives supported by an annual operating plan including the marketing and financial plan for the facilities.
  2. Monitor and report on a regular basis on the progress and achievement of objectives within the plans.

Marketing

  1. Initiate and foster contact with potential clients, actively promote the facilities including developing proposals, and ensure a comprehensive sponsorship program.
  2. Ensure that the organization has a clear understanding of current market conditions and trends and has identified the target markets for revenue generating opportunities.

Leadership and Management

  1. Collaborate with and lead staff to ensure consistency in the quality and timelines of programming, excellent customer service delivery and the effective, efficient and safe operation of the facilities.
  2. Maintain a culture of teamwork.
  3. Supervise and manage the performance of direct reports.
  4. Represent DFFH on community boards and working groups as assigned.

Administration

  1. Prepare, present and monitor annual operating and capital budgets with a focus on revenue generation and cost control.
  2. Develop, implement, and administer all policies and procedures related to the facilities and staff.
  3. Administer personnel and the operation of the facilities in accordance with all applicable legislation including The Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993.
  4. Attend all Board meetings and coordinate all communications with the Board.

Contracts and Agreements

  1. Negotiate, develop, and administer all contract license agreements, Team agreements, and contracted service agreements.
  2. Oversee and manage the performance of all third party agreements.

Events

  1. Oversee the development of annual operating calendars and activity schedules.
  2. Supervise and ensure conformance with all event contract license agreements and agreements for contracted services.
  3. Supervise events on a shared basis with other managers.
  4. Develop, analyze and present for review event Performa’s.
  5. Develop, analyze and present for review event financial settlements.
  6. Develop, analyze and present for review post event profit and loss statements.
  7. Manage innovative events and programs to optimize facility use and revenue generation.

Other

  1. Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  1. University degree in business/administration, marketing, or facility management.
  2. Ten (10) years’ experience in multi-purpose facility management and five (5) years industry experience.
  3. A combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the above-listed qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  1. Strategic and operational planning and budgeting skills.
  2. Considerable knowledge of marketing, public relations, advertising as well as event solicitation, promotion and management.
  3. Proven ability to lead, supervise, and manage staff performance.
  4. Superior interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
  5. Ability to work simultaneously with broad variety of vested interest groups and to foster a cooperative environment.
  6. Ability to anticipate and identify problems and implement corrective action.
  7. Demonstrated knowledge of the principles and practices used in the successful management of sports, entertainment and convention facilities.

ANNUAL SALARY RANGE

$80,000 - $95,000

(Casual Position)

Position Overview

The Moose Jaw Downtown and Soccer/Field-House Facilities are currently seeking casual Event Security personnel to join its security team which will provide security for the building during a variety of scheduled sporting and entertainment events.

Duties Include, but are not limited to:

  • Secure entrances and ensure all public areas are a safe environment for patrons
  • Perform bag checks and inspections
  • Parking enforcement and video surveillance
  • Enhance venue customer service
  • Candidates are required to have;
  • Exceptional problem solving and negotiation skills
  • Strong ability to be assertive and influential
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Courteous and professional manner
  • A commitment to service excellence and customer satisfaction
  • Solid team player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Able to work flexible hours as scheduled and could include evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Current CPR and First Aid certificates preferred
  • This position is a position of trust and successful applicants will be required to provide a Criminal Records Check
  • High School Graduate
  • Previous security services experience would be an asset
